Calderdale Football Success

The 2016-17 season has seen some fantastic success.

Football Photo 3It has been a fantastic debut season for our Year 7s, who completed their league campaign unbeaten, quickly forming a great team bond and showing exceptional teamwork throughout the season to be so successful. The team also showed superb determination to qualify for the Calderdale Cup final, but it proved a step too far for the boys, and despite a great performance, they were unlucky to miss out on winning the Double, narrowly losing out to Lightcliffe Academy. Nevertheless, it has been a great first season for the team, who hope to build on this success next year.

Our Year 8s have tasted similar success this year, reaching the Calderdale Cup final for the first time. After a stunning 7-4 victory in the semi-final against Ryburn, they played their fourth game in ten days in the final against a very strong Brooksbank side. However, the team didn’t let their tiredness get the better of them, putting in a sensational performance to beat the reigning champions 3-0, with goals from Mucci, Hudson and Thompson putting the game beyond reach of their opponents. This was the second cup final of the season for the Year 8s, who also reached the West Yorkshire Cup final earlier in the season, but lost out on a difficult pitch that did not suit their style of play to a great St. Mary’s Menston team.

Football Photo 2Year 11 ended their school football careers with a cup final appearance, showing great resilience to overcome some difficult opposition to reach the Calderdale Cup final for the second year running. They battled strongly in the final, but ultimately, could not break down the reigning champions fully, with Brooksbank managing to keep hold of the trophy for the second year running with a 4-2 victory. Nonetheless, the boys can be extremely proud of getting to the final for the second year running!
