Calderdale Rugby Success!
Tuesday 25 April saw the Year 8 and 9 rugby teams represent RHS in the Calderdale Rugby League finals.
In two fantastic games, the Year 8s were unlucky to miss out to Brooksbank, whilst the Year 9s won a tight contest against the same opponents.
Real credit must go to the Year 8 team who are in their first season playing together as a team, and it is a real achievement to reach any final at this early stage of their careers. All of the players should be very proud of themselves, and have given themselves a great platform to be Calderdale champions in the future.
However, for the Year 9s, it was a different story. They faced their nemesis, Brooksbank, who they have never beaten since starting at high school. The game started with a familiar tale, with Brooksbank controlling the play and eventually going three tries ahead.
The Rastrick boys showed real grit and determination to haul themselves back into the game, levelling the game at 24-24 with the last play of the game. A draw meant that the Golden Point came into play, with the team who scored the next point being crowned Calderdale champions. Brooksbank opted to receive the kick; a move which backfired on them spectacularly as a Levell Lewis and Oliver Peterkin combination ended with Peterkin scoring a fantastic try to ensure Rastrick won the game.
This achievement was made even more special by the fact that this is the first time any RHS rugby league team has been crowned Calderdale Champions.
A special mention must also go to Peterkin, who was named Man of the Match by the Calderdale Rugby League Competition organisers.
Both teams will now go on to represent RHS in the national competition next year.
