Calderdale's Youth MP Visits RHS
On Thursday 24 September, Calderdale’s Member of Youth Parliament, Ella Beevers visited RHS to talk to Year 10 and our Senior Student Leaders.
Ella, who was elected as Calderdale’s MYP nearly two years ago gave a rousing speech to Year 10 in assembly about how she got into politics and her role in representing our students at both a local and national level. Ella spoke about how she had direct input into the Government’s recent announcement to raise the living wage for people over the age of 25, and in improving mental health services for young people across the country. The Year 10 students were thoroughly engaged throughout, listening intently to Ella’s stories about the debates she has held in the House of Commons, and her live debate that was screened on the BBC.
After the assembly, Ella spoke to our Senior Student Leaders about her role, and about the upcoming Make Your Mark vote that all students in the school will be taking part in. The vote, which is about issues affecting young people, will give children and young people across the country to have a say in the next issues the Government should tackle. Ella told the Senior Student Leaders that there will be 8,000 people across Calderdale taking part in the vote, and over 1,000,000 young people nationally.
Watch this space for information on all of the issues you can vote for coming into form time this week, before we take part in the Mark Your Mark ballot next week, which will be run by all of our Student Leaders.
Keep your eyes peeled on the BBC News Channel in November, where you will be able to see Ella take part in the next live debate for the Members of Youth Parliament.« Back to News
