Choir success at Mrs Sunderland Festival
Rastrick choirs took part in the Mrs Sunderland Festival in Huddersfield Town Hall again this year.
The Junior Choir were defending the ‘Year 9 and under’ trophy from last year’s festival. They sang their 2 contrasting songs with “conviction and commitment” and “well shaped, supported and controlled phrasing”. They were thrilled to be placed joint 2nd with Lindley Junior School Choir.
In the evening RHS fielded 2 choirs in the ’19 Years and under’ class; RHS Choir (Juniors and Seniors), and RHS Senior Choir (year 9 – 13). Against stiff competition from choirs from as far afield as Hull, as well as from Huddersfield, Halifax and Oldham, the Senior Choir were placed 2nd and the School Choir came 1st with the tenors and basses receiving a “well done” from the adjudicator for their “warm tone and focussed delivery”, while the upper voices “added a shimmer and sparkle”. He finished his comments with; “Goosebumps! Bravo!” RHS Choir was also awarded the Arthur Rooke Trophy for the best single performance of the day (some 70 songs altogether).
Rastrick singers’ families and friends provided fantastic support from the audience!
