Choirs Sing their Way to Success at Mrs Sunderland Festival
Rastrick High School choirs were once again very successful in the recent Mrs Sunderland Festival held in Huddersfield Town Hall.
The Junior Choir, for Year 9 students and under, won their class with a distinction grade. In the evening, eleven choirs competed in the Senior Youth Choir class. RHS had four choirs entered in this class; Chamber Choir, Boys’ Choir, Senior Choir and full School Choir. The Senior Choir came joint second and the full School Choir was placed first. Both were awarded distinction grades. The adjudicator, Marilynne Davies, praised the choirs for their contrasting programmes and committed performances, adding that the winning choir’s were “A joy to listen to you, well done!”
Rastrick’s Music Department is also very proud of the following singers who entered the solo vocal classes in the festival. Elizabeth Gunshon, Connie Breen, Amelia Lewis, Saskia Kirk, Emily Walker, Ophelia Ormerod, Harkiran Banga, Georgia Collier, Alice Lambert, Amy Jagger, Ben Malone, George Jenkins and Sean Reilly. Many first, second and third places were awarded to these outstanding youngsters and George Jenkins won the Huddersfield Choral Society Rose Bowl for young singers, performing George Butterworth’s haunting song “Is My Team Ploughing”.
