Joshua's Flying High

Year 11 student, Joshua Clegg, recently attended  a flying experience with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets Hudderfield 59 Squadron, of which he is a member.

On Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of April he attended The South & West Yorkshire Wing HQ on a NCO Course (non-commissioned Officer) which he passed. Congratulations Joshua!

Following this, he spent time at RAF Linton-On-Ouse on a Flying day where he took to the controls of a Grob G115E plane for the first time. The G115E, kown by the RAF as 'Tutor' was designed to execute pilot screening, elementary flight training and aerobatics manoeuvres in the UK.  It can cruise at 130 knots (which in miles per hour is just under 150mph) at sea level and climbs to 5,000ft in seven minutes.

Joshua is now hopefully working towards a Flying Scholarship with the RAF; these courses are the stepping stone to gaining their Private Pilot' Licence and potentially a career as a pilot with the RAF, the Royal Navy, Army or commercial airlines.

Some cadets achieve their PPLs before they even get their driving licence, so the sky really is the limit for Joshua!
