Our 2016 Prizewinners
To celebrate another highly successful year Rastrick High School & Sixth Form College recently held its Presentation Evening.
Both A Level and GSCE students returned from Universities, Colleges and employment to receive the prizes they have worked so hard to achieve, and to celebrate their excellent results.
Headteacher, Steve Evans commented on the excellent achievements of the GCSE and A Level students at Rastrick, adding that the hard work, dedication and consistently high standards set by students and staff has led to another exceptionally successful year at RHS. He added, “This special occasion highlights the school’s stunning academic successes of the past academic year, the dedication of the students to improve the school and the thoughtfulness to support fellow students and the local community. This is why we are immensely proud of the students at RHS and it is such an honour to see so many students receiving the accolades they so richly deserve.
Guest speaker, Comedian and Writer Dave Smith gave a witty insight into how his career has been shaped. After 22 years on stage and at the keyboard, Dave is now inspiring young people to have a go, to express themselves, grasp new opportunities and to create new ones. Dave is still amazed at where his writing has taken him. In a marketplace where adaptability is everything, Dave is living proof that there is a place for using and developing the skills you already have, to build an enjoyable and meaningful career.
Chris Redfearn, President of the Rotary Club of Brighouse joined other special guests on the night to present prizes on the Club’s behalf.
The final special prize of the evening, The Clay Memorial Prize for Academic Achievement, was presented to Leia Butterworth. An unassuming and dedicated artist, Leah demonstrated passion and flair for all creative subjects. Her commitment to her studies in three creative subjects resulted in an A* in Textiles, an A in Art and an A in Photography. Leia is now studying for a BA (Hons) in Textiles in Practice at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The night was a true celebration of achievement at Rastrick High School & Sixth Form College.
